The Tones Repping California Bay Area Hot or Not?

December 17, 2009

The Tones are progressive masters in the creation of soulful, honest hip hop in its most appealing form. Being compared to the likes of Blackstar, Tribe Called Quest, Slum Village, De La Soul, Little Brother and even Mobb Deep, many might wonder how such a sound can be derived from the California Bay Area.

This versatile duo consists of rapper-producer, Retro, and rapper-singer, Suhn. Since the group first formed in 2001, The Tones have toured with the likes of Common, Slum Village, Little Brother, Roots’ drummer QuestLove, and Dr. Cornell West to name a few. Within the same period of time, Suhn (more…)

Da Pretty Boyz Hot or Not?

I’ve had the pleasure of working with the boys on a few different occasions. Not only are they talented and they keep the crowd on their feet, but also they are humble and real as well. They work extremely hard and have been through different states promoting their hit single “Tonight”. They have even made it to 106&Park recently winning the competition on Wild Out Wednesdays. I find myself catching up with them on a weekly basis and they know that I am here for them whenever they need anything. With me it’s not about putting money in my pocket. When I believe in someone I represent for him or her whichever way I possibly can. I definitely see a bright future for this group. So make sure to keep it locked as we follow them to the road to stardom. (more…)

Headmaster Reppin Broward Hot or Not?

October 3, 2009

Car Shot

Headmaster Da Don born “Ron Towns” will be one of the kings of rap. He is that rare commodity: a “commercial powerhouse with artistic and street credibility to spare. His ascent to stardom is actually almost a decade in the making, which gives him a chance to develop the theatrical image that will make him one of raps most distinctive personalities. Everything about him is unremittingly intense, from his physique to his delivery.” He can move from spiritual anguish one minute to a narrative about the sins of the streets the next yet, keep it all part of the same. The results are compelling enough to make him number one. He grew up in Hollywood representing to the fullest, the birthplace of an upcoming star. He will put Hollywood on the map, sweeping threw like Hurricane Andrew did in Miami. As a young child he always had stars in his eyes as he grew up an athlete, from football to basketball head could do it all. He started rapping after hanging out with a fellow rap friend “CB”. He was keeping very much the same style till one day dramatically switching up after experiencing life. Some of his musical influences range from Tupac, Trick daddy, and T.I . (more…)

PHATZ – Bio By: Ms. Rivercity

Being fresh means bringing a new, innovative element to something that would otherwise be ordinary. Over the last couple of years, Carol City rapper Phatz, a.k.a. Marty McFly, introduced his own style of freshness to the Florida Hip Hop sound.

Described as a mixture of “The Old Kanye,” Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne, Phatz bridges the gap between the fly life and the hood life. “If you hear my music you wouldn’t immediately know I’m from Dade,” explains the multi-dimensional lyricist. “I’ve been blessed to live all around the world. I been down here for the last 15 years so that’s soaked up in me, but through my music you hear a lot of different influences.”

Though he’s only been rapping for a short time, Phatz developed his mic skills long before stepping in a booth. While MCing for 99 Jamz’ DJ Entice and promoting for nightclubs, Phatz built a foundation for his upcoming rap career. Through longtime producer acquaintance, Jackpot Music Group (Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Brisco), Phatz was introduced to the recording studio, where he began making music. Shortly thereafter he released his first mixtape, It’s So Easy, which was met with good reviews. (more…)

When some people hear the word D League their initial thought may be of the NBA’S D-League, but these two hold a league of their own. Demo and Uncut, the two members of D league, are South Florida’s newest rap duo. Far from the average and miles passed the ordinary, they are setting their sites for the majors, nothing less.

These young, ambitious and talented professionals are thinking and logically plotting the next step in their careers. D League was formed 5 years ago when both Demo and Uncut realized their passion for music. Representing opposite sides of the globe allows them to combine their experiences and lifestyles, which creates astounding music.
