Being fresh means bringing a new, innovative element to something that would otherwise be ordinary. Over the last couple of years, Carol City rapper Phatz, a.k.a. Marty McFly, introduced his own style of freshness to the Florida Hip Hop sound.
Described as a mixture of “The Old Kanye,” Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne, Phatz bridges the gap between the fly life and the hood life. “If you hear my music you wouldn’t immediately know I’m from Dade,” explains the multi-dimensional lyricist. “I’ve been blessed to live all around the world. I been down here for the last 15 years so that’s soaked up in me, but through my music you hear a lot of different influences.”
Though he’s only been rapping for a short time, Phatz developed his mic skills long before stepping in a booth. While MCing for 99 Jamz’ DJ Entice and promoting for nightclubs, Phatz built a foundation for his upcoming rap career. Through longtime producer acquaintance, Jackpot Music Group (Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Brisco), Phatz was introduced to the recording studio, where he began making music.
